“The tremendous customer interest in our TBM 850 Elite version following its debut last year is confirmed in 2013 with a backlog for 30 aircraft, Our backlog is now much stronger than it was at this time last year, and we expected the 500th TBM 700/850 to enter service in North America by early next year,” says North American president Nicholas Chabbert. Read the full article here. AINonline//April 9, 2013//Chad Trautvetter

The TBM 850 with a cruise speed of 320 KTAS at FL260 (in ISA conditions) gives owners and pilots the advantages of the cruising speeds typical of light jets, but with the economical direct operating costs of a single-engine turboprop.

The TBM 850:
• Carries six adults
• Has a quiet, air-conditioned, luxury large cabin
• Climbs to 31,000 ft in as little as 20 minutes
• Flies over 1,400 nm with NBAA IFR reserves
• Can slip into a 2,100 ft strip or a mountain runway.

The new aircraft will have the same airframe and engines as the 500, but will be called Eclipse 550 and sell for $2.695 million. Like the 500, the 550 will be certified for single-pilot operation. Cockpit avionics upgrades include synthetic and enhanced vision; sharper, more powerful display screens; a separate avionics standby display unit; dual integrated flight-management systems; and autothrottles for smoother, more efficient engine operation.
“This is already one of the quietest aircraft interiors out there,” said Holland, “but the 550 is just so much tighter.”
The 550 will be the only factory production twinjet available for under $3 million and will boast operating costs below those of a new single-engine piston aircraft in select markets, such as Europe, Holland said. Direct hourly operating costs (fuel, maintenance, engine reserves) in the U.S. are between $650 and $700 an hour, he said. That makes the Eclipse less expensive to operate per nautical mile than even some single-engine turboprops. Pilots routinely see fuel burns at maximum cruise altitude of less than 60 gallons an hour and can easily use runways shorter than 3,000 feet. Read the full article here.

The robust Eurocopter EC145 light/medium-twin helicopter, which has long been popular with EMS operators and the military, is increasingly being ordered for executive transport. Now the manufacturer has collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to develop a flexible, upscale executive cabin for the model, with seating for four to eight passengers and more streamlined skids, nose, cowling and cladding to the exterior that add around three knots to the cruise speed. The helicopter has enormous utility. It has a range of 362 nautical miles at 131 knots (with full fuel, no reserve and one pilot and six passengers, each 180 pounds).
T2 pilots will enjoy a new “Helionix” state-of-the-art glass-panel avionics suite and standard four-axis autopilot for flying in the most demanding instrument conditions. However, the cabin remains the T2’s strongest selling point. Larger than the ones in some light jets, it measures 9.7 feet long and 5.4 feet wide and offers a combined cabin/baggage volume of 217 cubic feet. Add the approximately $1.5 million Mercedes-Benz package to the $7.5 million price of the basic helicopter and you get all that utility and a lot of style.
The Benz package provides comfortable seating for up to eight passengers in a highly modular, flexible cabin that can easily be configured to haul passengers and outsized toys, including surfboards and dirt bikes. You can actually change the size of the baggage compartment with an adjustable wall and there is tie-down hardware to secure even the most unwieldy cargo. Plug-and-play multifunction boxes between the luxurious captain chairs slide in on rails and can hold coolers, DVD players and tables. Passengers can adjust the color and intensity of the LED lighting. Customers can choose from four color and trim combinations.
More power, less noise and great style. These few but important changes will likely keep this helicopter a market favorite for at least another decade. Read the full article here.

Marquis Yacht, a global leader in ultra-premium quality yacht design and construction, will unveil a newly designed 72’ Motor Yacht at this year’s Miami International Boat Show.  This new yacht, christened the 720 Portofino-Edition, utilized our proven and very popular 720 Fly Bridge Motor Yacht as the starting point for this new vessel.

The saloon, galley, dining area and pilot house of the 720 Portofino-Edition reflect a new approach to allocating the interior space of a premium quality yacht destined to be used for relaxation and entertainment.  The single level floor plan is a highly functional feature that will be appreciated by all who come aboard.  People can walk from the swim platform to the cockpit through the saloon into the yacht’s galley and dining area and to the pilot house without navigating a single step. The 720 Portofino-Edition is the only yacht in its class with a single level floor plan.  This is a very unique attribute of the Portofino-Edition and reflects Marquis’ close attention to details often ignored by other yacht builders.

One of the many great features of the Portofino-Edition is the exquisite seating and dining area located on the yacht’s foredeck.  This area is designed to perform a variety of duties.  The seating is comfortable for lounging at dockside, at anchor or while underway and the handcrafted teak table makes this an enjoyable environment in which to have cocktails or share a meal with onboard guests.  The extra-wide side-deck, bulwark and rails on the Marquis 720 facilitate easy and safe access from the yacht’s cockpit to the new foredeck settee. This area is further enhanced with an LED lighting array that adds to the environment’s ambience.

The captain’s quarters on this new Marquis have also benefited from our design team’s creative thinking.  The Portofino-Edition’s Crew’s quarters is very unique and includes a very comfortable berth, private stall shower and an office work area.  This is a highly functional quarters for the captain, steward or ship’s mate.

The newly designed Marquis 720 Portofino-Edition will be on display and available for personal tours throughout the Miami International Boat Show.  The Marquis Yacht exhibit contains five new yachts and is located in the 4400 block of Collins Avenue, on the Intracoastal Waterway, Miami Beach, FL.
